How cheats work in GTA 5
- Enter them while you play, not in a menu: press the buttons fairly quickly, type the code in the PC cheat console (open it with the tilde key, ~), or dial the number on the in-game phone. A small confirmation appears above the map.
- Most stay on until you enter them again, and many can’t be used during missions.
- Some go up in steps. Slow Motion and Slow Motion Aim get stronger each time, up to three times, and a fourth turns them off. Change Weather moves through 9 kinds of weather, and the wanted level cheats add or remove one star at a time.
- Story mode only. Cheats don’t work in GTA Online.
- Save first. Cheats turn off trophies and achievements until you reload a save.
Spawning vehicles
14 cheats spawn a vehicle, from a BMX to the Buzzard attack helicopter. Three of them, the Duke O’Death, the Kraken submarine and the Dodo seaplane, have no button code: you unlock them by finishing an event or challenge in the game, then dial them on the phone or type them on PC.
Common questions
Is there a money cheat?
No. There’s no money cheat in GTA V, on any platform.
Are there cheats for GTA Online?
No. Cheats only work in story mode.
Do the codes work on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Yes. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions use the same codes as PS4 and Xbox One, and the newer editions added no new cheats.
Why didn’t my cheat work?
Press the buttons a little faster, and make sure you’re in story mode, not in GTA Online, a menu or a mission that blocks cheats. On PC, open the cheat console with the tilde key (~) before typing the code.
Can I have the cheats on my phone?
Yes. Our free app, All Cheats For GTA 5 for iPhone, iPad and Mac, has every cheat, even offline. Get it on the App Store.
