Privacy Policy
GTA 5 Cheats is an app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android made by Gretar Agnarsson (“we”, “us”). Both versions handle your information the same way, apart from the differences between Apple’s and Google’s systems that this policy points out. This policy explains what information the app and the companies it works with handle, why, and the choices you have. It also covers our website, appstarme.com (see Our website). If you have any questions, email [email protected].
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email address or contacts.
- Your settings, favourites and purchases stay on your device. We can’t see them.
- If you vote on Media posts, our server keeps your votes with a random ID for your device, never your name or account.
- If you email us, we only use your email to reply.
- The app is free because it shows ads from Google AdMob. Google collects some device and usage information to show and measure ads. You decide whether ads may be personalised and, on iPhone, iPad and Mac, whether the app may track you.
- Buying “Remove Ads” switches the ad system off completely.
- Our website shows ads from Google AdSense, which uses cookies. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google asks for your choice first.
- We don’t sell your information for money.
Information that stays on your device
The app saves the following on your device only. It is never sent to us, and deleting the app deletes it:
- Your settings (button size, phone numbers, uppercase titles, cheat icons, scrolling) and your favourite cheats.
- Whether you bought Remove Ads.
- The Media posts you save, the pictures and videos already downloaded, so they open quickly, and any posts you chose to hide.
- How many times you’ve opened the app, roughly how long you’ve used it, and when it last asked for a rating. These are only used to decide when to show Apple’s or Google Play’s rating prompt.
- On iPhone, iPad and Mac: the console tab you used last, and the cheats added to your device’s Spotlight search so you can find them from the Home Screen. Spotlight is managed by iOS on your device, and you can turn it off for this app in iOS Settings.
Your device’s own backup (iCloud Backup, or Android’s backup to your Google Account) may include your settings, favourites and saved posts, as it does for most apps. Those backups are kept by Apple or Google under your account, and we can’t see them. Downloaded pictures and videos aren’t backed up.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app shows ads in its lists and full-screen ads using the Google Mobile Ads SDK from Google. To show ads, Google collects information from your device, including:
- Device identifiers. On iPhone, iPad and Mac, Apple’s advertising identifier is only available if you allow tracking (see below). On Android, Google uses your device’s advertising ID, which you can reset or delete (see below), and an ID for the app on your device (the app set ID).
- Advertising data, such as which ads were shown and tapped.
- How you interact with ads, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
- Crash, performance and other diagnostic information.
Google uses this to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform, prevent fraud and, only if you allow it, personalise ads. Ads in the app are limited to content Google rates as suitable for teens.
Your choices
- European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland: when you first open the app, Google’s consent form asks whether your information may be used for personalised advertising and other purposes. You can change your answer at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy Settings.
- US states with privacy laws: where it applies, you can opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your information for targeted advertising under Settings → Privacy Settings in the app.
- Apple’s tracking prompt (iPhone, iPad and Mac): the app asks whether it may track you across other companies’ apps and websites. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, your advertising identifier isn’t shared and ads aren’t personalised with it. Ads are shown either way. You can change this in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android’s ad settings: Android has no tracking prompt. Instead, you can delete or reset your advertising ID in Android’s settings (under Privacy → Ads, or Google → Ads on some phones). Once it’s deleted, apps can’t use it to personalise ads. Ads are shown either way.
- Remove Ads: after you buy Remove Ads, the ad system isn’t started at all, so Google receives no information from the app.

The Media tab
The Media tab shows GTA pictures and videos, many of them first posted on Reddit or 9GAG. The list, and the pictures and videos, come from our own server (gta-app-api.appstarme.com). Like any website, this server receives your device’s IP address and basic technical details (such as the type of device and app) when the app asks for the list, a picture or a video. We don’t use this to identify you or for advertising. Our servers may keep standard technical logs for security and troubleshooting, for as long as that requires. The server sits behind Cloudflare, which delivers the pictures and videos and protects the server, and handles these technical details for us under Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
You can vote posts up or down. So that each device counts once and the app can show which posts you’ve voted on, the app makes a random ID the first time you vote, and sends it with your votes and when it loads the list. On iPhone, iPad and Mac it’s kept in your device’s keychain, so it stays if you delete and reinstall the app, but it doesn’t move to a new device. On Android it’s kept with the app’s settings, so Android’s backup may bring it back after you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. Our server keeps the ID with your votes: which posts, up or down, and when. The ID doesn’t include your name, Apple Account, Google Account or advertising identifier, and we don’t use it for advertising. Taking a vote back deletes it from our server.
Posts you save are kept on your device. When you open Saved, the app asks our server for those posts, to show their latest points. When you search, the words you type are sent to our server to find matching posts. Neither your saved posts nor your searches are stored on our server, apart from the standard technical logs mentioned above.
The app doesn’t connect to your Reddit or 9GAG account. Posts you hide are remembered on your device only. To report a picture or video, long-press it and choose Report Picture or Report Video, or email us.
Our website
Our website, appstarme.com, lists the same cheats as the app, with this policy and our support page. It has no accounts, forms or analytics of its own. Searching the cheats on the website happens in your browser: what you type isn’t sent to us.
The website shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform, prevent fraud and, only if you allow it, personalise ads based on your visits to this and other websites. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google’s consent message asks for your choice first, and you can change it later through the privacy settings it offers on the site. Where US state privacy laws apply, Google’s message lets you opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your information for targeted advertising.
You can also turn off personalised ads from Google in My Ad Center, and from many other ad companies at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu. Your browser’s settings also let you block or delete cookies.
Like any website, appstarme.com receives your IP address and basic technical details (such as your browser and device) when you visit, through Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site, and our web host. We don’t use them to identify you or for advertising, and they’re only kept in the standard technical logs mentioned above.
Purchases
Remove Ads is an in-app purchase handled by Apple on the App Store, and by Google on Google Play. We never see your name or payment details. The app receives the store’s confirmation of the purchase so it can switch ads off, and keeps that on your device. Each store keeps purchases with its own account, so one made on an iPhone doesn’t carry over to Android, or the other way round. Purchases are covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy and Google’s Privacy Policy.
Things you choose to share
- When you share or copy a cheat or a picture, it goes only where you send it.
- On iPhone and iPad, if you save a picture to Photos, the app only asks for permission to add photos. It can’t see your photo library. On Android, the app has no access to your photos or files: what you save goes through Android’s share sheet to the app you choose.
- If you email us (with Contact Us in Settings, Report Picture or Report Video in Media, or your own email app), we receive your email address, your message and the details the app adds to it: the app’s version, the device model, and the iOS or Android version. We use them only to reply and to deal with reports, and delete them when they’re no longer needed.
- Ratings and reviews go to Apple or Google through their own prompts. We only see public reviews.
- If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports. On Android, if you’ve chosen to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google Play may give us anonymous crash and performance reports. We use them to fix bugs.
What we don’t do
The app and the website have no accounts and no analytics service of our own (the Google Analytics used by earlier versions of the app was removed in version 4.0). The app doesn’t ask for your location, contacts, camera or microphone, and we don’t sell your information for money.
Children
GTA 5 Cheats is about a game made for adults and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.
How long information is kept
- On your device: until you delete the app, hide, unsave or unstar something, or change a setting. Copies in your device’s backup follow your backup settings.
- By Google, including the website’s ad cookies: as described in Google’s data retention policy. You can delete cookies in your browser at any time.
- Our servers’ technical logs: only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
- Media votes and the random ID they’re kept with: until you take the vote back, or until we delete the post.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to answer them and deal with reports.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
We rely on your consent for personalised advertising and for storing or reading information on your device or browser for advertising. We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the app and the website free and secure for non-personalised advertising, fraud prevention and server logs. We rely on our contract with you to provide purchases and to count your Media votes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your information, to object to or restrict its use, to receive a copy of it, to withdraw your consent, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the “sale” or “sharing” of your information. Using these rights won’t affect how the app works for you.
Our servers keep only short-lived technical logs and your Media votes under a random ID (take a vote back to delete it), so most choices are made in the app’s Privacy Settings, in the iOS tracking setting, in Android’s ad settings, in the privacy settings Google’s message offers on our website, or with Google’s My Ad Center. For anything else, email [email protected] and we’ll reply within 30 days. In the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
International transfers
Google and Cloudflare may process information in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires it, such transfers rely on recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security
The app connects to our servers, Google and the app stores over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and our website is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we don’t collect information we don’t need.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app’s update notes.
